Iraq was represented by CMC to participate in the 10th meeting of the regular session of the Arab Media Ministers Council/ Executive Office that was organized by the communications and media sector in the League of Arab States- General Secretariat, hosted by the Ministry of media in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday 9th January 2019 at the King Faisal Conference Hall in Riyadh.
The Republic of Iraq delegation was represented by CMC, participated by CMC Board of Members: Mr. Khalil Al-Tayyar and Mr. Asaad Nabil Mohammad Ali: from Audiovisual office. The meeting chaired by the Information Minister: Mr. Turki bin Abdullah Al-Shabbana who praised Media Ministers participation and their representatives,. He and welcomed them in his opening speech in which he wished them success in this session to reach decisions that could contribute in enhancing the mutual Arab media work within framework of Arab States League.
General Secretary Assistant of Arab States League attended the meeting along with the chief of Media & Communications Sector: Dr. Bader Al-Din Al-Alali and the Administrative Manager of the Executive Office of Arab Media Ministers: Dr. Fawzi Al-Ghweil attended the meeting.
Mr. Khalil al-Tayyar: the head of Iraqi delegation explained that the meeting of this sesssion included members of the Executive Office of Arab Media Ministers Council, which consists Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, UAE, Tunisia, Somalia, Sudan, Egypt, In addition to the presence and participation of unions and organizations involved in Media functioning within framework of Arab Media Ministers Council.
This regular meeting was dedicated to approve decisions and recommendations which have been taken by the states members’ representatives in the Permanent Arab Committee meeting No. (92), in which (13) items had been already discussed to activate the mutual Arab media work.
Mr. Altayyar referred that the meeting included a bunch of recommendations which the Iraqi delegation have already requested to be adopted in the working sheet presented to Permanent Committee meeting. The most prominent recommendations were those related to the role of media to confront terrorism occurrence. Iraq request to reactivate the work stated in the resolution issued by the 44th regular session of Arab Media Ministers Council No. (S/376-D / 44- 15/1/2013) in which approval was granted to host Iraq to the Arab Observatory that assigned to follow up media coverage for terrorism event. It demanded to complete its establishment, resolving the administrative structure, naming cadres, and start to carry out its assignments. Observatory should send its activities report every six months addressed to the Technical General Administration of Arab Media Ministers Council to be presented to the Executive Office of Arab Information Ministers Council.
As for the term related to execution of League Council decisions at summit and ministerial level, Iraq has achieved a decision calling ministries of media and the concerned authorities in states member to commence a media promotion campaign and organizing discussion seminars to highlight the importance of Arab water security for peoples stability in the region, and focusing on the fairness of Iraqis’ demands to obtain appropriate water releases to save the Iraqi environment to avoid drought and desertification, associated with negative impacts on the aquatic, plant and animal life.
As for the term to follow-up Arab media movement plan abroad, the Executive Office express its gratitude to the Republic of Iraq to commit paying 10% of its due share of the Arab media movement plan budget.
Iraq suggestion was approved to adopt standards for selecting and naming Arab capitals to be crowned as Media Capitals, to support their ability and grant them confidence in making decision. In addition to that allowing the media capital to present the shield to the next city as an annual tradition in receiving and handing process to Arab media capital.. He praised Iraq\s achievements in the events of crowning Baghdad as Arab Media capital for the year 2017-2018.
On the other hand, the Iraqi delegation who participated in the meeting gained the attention of Saudi Arabia media. Iraqi delegation comments were quoted by Saudi means of media plus several interviews were made with the delegation members.
Iraqi ambassador in Saudi Arabia: Dr. Qahtan Al Janabi, met CMC delegation. He praised the effective participation of CMC in the Arab meetings and expressed his desire to strengthen cooperation between CMC and the Iraqi embassy, and its contribution to activate the programs of mutual Coordination Committee between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, and activate the cooperation of Communications frameworks in Media field.
