President Receives CMC CEO with the Chairman and Members of CMC Board of Commissioners to Review Performance and Achievements done and to have a look on work obstacles
At Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad on Sunday 10 th February
2019, Iraqi President Dr.Barham Saleh met CMC Head
Executive Officer with the Chairman and members of
Board of Commissioners to discuss works and achievements
done plus the work obstacles.
In the beginning, CMC Chief Executive Officer – Dr. Ali
Nasser Al-Khuwaildi presented his gratitude and appreciation to
the President for receiving CMC delegation to have a look on its
work technique.
As the President, is considered the protector of constitution
Dr.Khuwaildi clarified that CMC is progressing quickly to be in
harmony with the wide development of telecommunications and
information technology sectors in the world, and to comply with
the Order 65 in force by which CMC has been established, and
pursuant to the constitution’s terms which ensured financially
and administratively independence for CMC’s performance.
Dr. Al-Khuwaili explained to the President CMC strategic
projects and the importance of their goals. The most important
project was DU3M 2025. He emphasized that CMC is the only
Commission in Iraq which has put a policy and work strategy
plan for seven year period, containing CMC’s vision to what
ICT sectors would be in Iraq in 2025, and its impact on the
technological, economical, educational, health and financial
situation in Iraq.
Dr. Al-Khuwailidy also talked about CMC achievements
in media sector, requesting the President to have a role in
solving the debts incurred by the media institutes, he said that
CMC has already raised an official letter addressed to the
Parliament pursuant to the Board of Commissioners decision to
display a plan for deleting media debts, as an evaluation for their
great efforts in liberating lands seized by Da’aish criminal gangs.
In return, the President praised CMC role and focused on
the necessity to activate its supportive role to release
communications and media market. At the same time, he asked
CMC to take greater role in organizing communications
processes because it is the heart of economical life in most
world countries, suggesting finding cooperation and
understanding formula between CMC and the Ministry of
Communications to identify the authorities in managing and
regulating ICT (Communications and Information Technology)
sector.
Mr. Ashraf Dahan – Chairman of CMC Board of Commissioners
explained to the President about the projects that have been
launched by CMC such as: (the fourth license project) and its
details. He requested President to have a role in blessing and
supporting such a vital project which will transfer
telecommunications sector in Iraq to the developed countries
level. He added that CMC is also working to launch the “Fixed
Broadband” and Smart Village projects to be a new chance for
international companies to invest in ICT sector.
Dr.Sarkot Namik- CMC Board of Commissioners Member
submitted clarification to the President about pricing
mechanism of telecommunications services in Iraq, showing that
it depends on offer and demand. In this regard, CMC encourages
submitting offers and services in competitive prices to serve
citizen’s interest. Dr.Sarkot requested President to advise
parliament to hear from CMC about its proposed rules and
communications law to be legislated by parliament.
Mr.Jassem Al-Lami- CMC Board of Commissioners
Member submitted a demonstration about the role of CMC in
organizing media as a regulator of this sector according to its
valid law. He pointed out that CMC active attendance in the
international conferences, especially the meetings of Arab
Media Ministers Council restore the leading role to Iraq and its
vital role for organizing Arab media, as well as organizing Iraqi
media sector pursuant to such mechanisms that made it as a
back up and supporter for state establishments, especially
security forces in their fighting against Da’aish criminal gangs.
Finally, the President promised to be in contact with CMC
and follow its activities, and seek to solve and overcome all
obstacles facing the commission in order to take greater role in
developing and freeing telecommunications and Information
technology sectors’ policies. this will contribute to invite large
companies to invest in Iraq; The President also advised CMC
and public telecommunications companies’ operators in Iraq to
launch their developing projects, such as: participating in
reconstruction the historical and cultural are in Baghdad city and
supporting educational projects.
